Urahara's Bankai

“I’ll never use it again” murmured Kisuke in an almost inaudible voice.

Yoruichi did not reply. She stared down at her hands with sorrow in her eyes.

“My Zanpakutō…” she muttered.

“I am so sorry. I did not mean to…I didn’t…I couldn’t have…I could not control it!” he implored then sighed “I should never have used it. I let the excitement of learning it get to my head. I should never have acted so recklessly. It takes years to master Bankai and I went and unleashed its full power a few minutes after learning how to summon it!” Kisuke grumbled and hit himself in the head.

Yoruichi looked up at Kisuke and felt a pang of guilt. He must feel guilty and she wasn’t making anything better by sitting around looking miserable.

“It wasn’t your fault Kisuke. You had no control over it. There was no way you could have known what would happen so don’t blame yourself. Don’t worry about it” she looked down at her hands again “Besides it’s not the end of the world, I’m sure I’ll work something out. My Zanpakutō wasn’t the only reason I’m Commander of the Special Forces. I have other talents I can use” she said laughing half-heartedly.

Kisuke looked up at her and couldn’t help smiling. Even after destroying her Zanpaktou and jeopardizing her future, she wasn’t being bitter and resentful toward him. Instead she was actually trying to comfort him and telling him to forget all about it.

Sometimes he felt that he didn’t deserve her at all. She was so selfless.

He sighed and stared down at his own Zanpakutō - Benihime which was lying on the ground in front of him. He reached out to it and began to recall the day’s events which had ended so terribly...

~

“Three days! Only three days and I mastered Bankai!” howled Urahara as he skipped around Yoruichi with a giant grin stretching across his face.

Yoruichi chuckled.

“Don’t get too smug just yet. Just because you have Bankai now doesn’t change a thing. I’ll still kick your butt any day!” she laughed and stuck her tongue out at him.

“Ha!” laughed Kisuke “I’d love to see that! I’m the greatest Shinigami ever! Three days! Three measly days is all it took me! Three days and I have Bankai!” Urahara laughed maniacally.

Yoruichi crossed her arms

“You’re getting a bit full of yourself aren’t ya? I bet your Bankai isn’t even that great. Have you tried it out yet? What’s it do?”

Kisuke frowned and looked down at Benihime.

“I don’t know…”
“What!?”
“You’re right. I haven’t tried it out yet. I don’t know what it does”

Yoruichi stared at Urahara for a moment and then burst out laughing.

“Ahaahaha! All that showing off for nothing! I bet your Bankai is useless!”

Kisuke twitched

“I bet it’s a pink fat giant turtle”
“Don’t be ridiculous”
“One huge turtle that spits out water!”
“That’s not my Bankai…”
“Healing water! It shoots out healing water” boomed Yoruichi as she laughed hysterically
“My Bankai is not a giant turtle!”
“Or a polar bear!”

Kisuke considered this

“Polar Bears are strong. Maybe my Bankai is a giant polar bear that breathes fire”
“No! It’s a small weak polar bear that sits down and drinks tea” cackled Yoruichi as she fell down laughing.

Kisuke growled.

“That’s enough now”
“It’s a twig! It has to be a twig! One huge fluorescent twig!”
“Why don’t I just use it and we’ll see what it really is”
“No wait - one huge fluorescent elephant! An elephant! That’s what it is!”
“I’m going to use it”
“What?”
“I’m going to call out my Bankai. Get ready”

Yoruichi gulped and jumped back.

“Is that a good idea? Can you control it?”

Kisuke glared at his Zanpakutō for a moment then tightened his grip on it firmly.

“How hard can it be? That blockhead Isshin can do it” he laughed and adopted a battle stance.

Yoruichi chuckled.

“Ok. But be careful. Bankai needs a colossal amount of reiatsu to control”
“I know. I am head of the Shinigami Research Institute”

Yoruichi scowled

“Just be careful” she said and leapt away from Kisuke.

When she was far enough away and Urahara was satisfied that his Bankai would not reach her, he shut his eyes and focused. Taking a deep breath he muttered the words

“Benihime – Shinkan!”

A deafening sound rung out across the training arena and the ground began to tremble. Kisuke staggered for a moment but rapidly regained his composure. The blade of his Zanpakutō had erupted into thousands of microscopic shards and vanished.

The noise grew louder and louder and Kisuke faltered again under the weight of the agonizing sound. The noise seemed to be coming from beneath the ground and was resonating endlessly through the earth.

The tremors grew stronger and cracks in the ground began to appear. The earth shook more and more violently sending Kisuke tumbling to one side. He hissed. Whatever his Bankai was – it was rising from beneath the ground and he couldn’t control it.

Picking himself up, he tightened his hold on the hilt of his Zanpaktou and focused all his energy into controlling his Bankai.

He couldn’t.

The trembling suddenly came to a stop and a colossal structure burst out from the ground sending rocks and debris firing in all directions. Kisuke dove to one side just in time, managing to avoid an enormous rock as it shot past him. He leapt up and jumped onto higher ground to get a better view of what the structure was.

Kisuke’s eyes widened.

This was his Bankai.

It was gargantuan. A gigantic building loomed over the training arena casting shadows over everything. As Kisuke looked closer he saw that it was actually not a building at all. It was a giant gate. Two enormous black doors had risen out of the ground and were firmly shut. Kisuke gasped. Above the two doors was a single eye and it was glancing around the arena frantically as if desperately searching for its prey.

Kisuke’s heart sunk as the eye settled its sight on Yoruichi who was just picking herself up after evading the mass of rocks that had shot out everywhere.

The gate laughed and Kisuke’s heart sunk even further. It dawned on him that the gate was not a gate. It was a creature. The doors were its mouth.

“Run! I can’t control it” screamed Kisuke as the creature began to open its mouth and the giant gates creaked open.

Yoruichi braced herself and drew out her Zanpakutō.

Kisuke heard her release her Shikai and the doors suddenly swung wide open. A blinding light flooded through and the creature began to suck inwards. As the creature breathed in, Yoruichi’s Zanpakutō was dragged towards the mouth.

Kisuke stared helplessly at the scene. The creature had breathed in, causing a fierce current of air to drag everything towards its mouth. However, on closer inspection Kisuke found that the pulling effect was only affecting Yoruichis Zanpakutō. The rocks around her, Yoruichi herself and everything else seemed unaffected by the creature. It was only her Zanpakutō which was being fiercely dragged inwards and she was holding onto it desperately.

As she was being driven closer and closer to the mouth Kisuke yelled out

“Let go! It’s hopeless!”

He tried to leap forwards to help but was pushed back by the wild reiatsu emanating from his Bankai. Yoruichi cried as the Zanpakutō began to vanish into the gateway. Realising the gate was going to swallow her as well unless she let go, she released her sword and dove backwards.

The current of air suddenly stopped. The last of Yoruichi’s blade vanished into the abyss beyond the creatures mouth. The gates shut and within a second the whole creature had vanished in a puff of smoke.

The shattered shards of Benihime shot through the air and reformed the blade in the hilt Kisuke was holding. He looked down at his Zanpakutō in shock. Yoruichi cried out as she realised her Zanpakutō was gone. Kisuke felt the energy in his legs failing and he fell to the ground and then his mind faded into a deep sleep as his body was overcome by fatigue.

~

“My Bankai’s ability…is consuming Zanpakutō's….” murmured Kisuke shivering.

Yorucihi smirked

“It’s quite impressive when you think about it. Gives you an edge over everyone else”

He smiled as he realised she was right. It meant he could seal away all the other Captains Zanpakutō's if he ever had to fight them. He could defeat them all! He was invincible. Then, seeing the pain in Yoruichi’s eyes, he felt a pang of guilt. He had no right to be happy. He had robbed her of her Zanpakutō.

He couldn’t even imagine how devastating that must feel. He had been with his Zanpakutō for years watching her grow, developing new techniques with it and learning more about it every day. It was a sword but he felt as though it was also his friend. He had been with Benihime for so long, he could not imagine life without her. And poor Yoruichi had lost hers…and it was because of him.

“I’m sorry…” he said again and sighed.

She smiled

“I said it was ok. I know we’ll work something out. Or more accurately!” now Yoruichi glared at Kisuke “As your Bankai greedily ate away my Zanpakutō so technically you are to blame for my loss – I expect you to go and lock yourself in that lab of yours and not come out until you’ve made me a replacement of some sort!” she declared.

He smiled, glad to see that she could still joke around and be in high spirits around him after this. He nodded. He wouldn’t rest until he’d made a replacement…though it would never be the same. A replacement Zanpakutō was never the same as the original. He sighed and apologised again.

She chuckled

“Don’t be so hard on yourself” she winked “And besides, you know what this means now that your Bankai ate my Zanpakutō”
“What?”
“It means a part of me will always be with you” she smirked and shifted closer to him.

Kisuke grinned and put an arm around her shoulder. He kissed her on the forehead and sighed. It had been a long day.
This is my theory of what Urahara's Bankai is. I base it on the fact that he said it wouldn't be helpful to train Chad with his Bankai. Hope u like it ^^

chad is not soul reaper so he does not have a bankai. though your story is interesting, i will give you a better theory with a little more depth.

in his second dispute with yammy when he uses the gigai, he also stops one of yammys attacks using a method similar to when yorucihi fought soifon and stopped her attack by cancelling. clearly he is rehearsed in a style similar to shunko.

another thing to notice is that when he uses kido based attacks, they make a sound similar to a firework. clearly he takes great pride and respect in his bankai, which is why he wears a hat, color scheme being striped, like a firework.

another thing to notice is that he is very rehearsed in casting, so much that he even created a spell specific to sealing aizen away...he spends much of his time with his hands free, not nearly as much as using a sword.

finally are the gauntlets that he and yorucihi assemble in order to help aid the battle against aizen. a design like that is not sparked from nothing, so clearly he is familiar with skills of that sort and designing ways to amplify it.

these just being some of the things, along with the shape and style of his kido attacks, my theory is that his bankai is consumed from his sword and into his hands. the gloves being a similar style to chads, however, scythes appear from the top of both forearms in order to help fire his kido. this also free his hands for casting.. now the 2 secrets to his style are that he can absorb others spiritual pressure, as well as reishi from his surroundings, into his zanpakuto to amplify his damage. the reason he cant use it for training or anything of that variety is that if he absorbs too much into his zanpakuto, it will consume him unless he burns off the extra energy by using his ultimate attack. his ultimate being that he must stretch both arms upward together. doing this with his arms as well as the scythes on his arms, it forms the shape of a rocket....he then fires a massive charge into the sky that screams like a firework. it then explodes and rains red kido all around him, destroying everything nearby. when the energy is discharged, his spiritual pressure drops sharply like when captain hitsugaya runs out of petals on his bankai. it then resumes its original state.

this is why he is more rehearsed in spells and such. because his bankai is impossibly powerful...but the repercussions are too great to use since it is a double edged blade. he resorts more to spells and keeping his sword in its shikai state. pretty cool that he is so rehearsed with his zanpakuto that he can even use shunko similar techniques with the tip of his blade. :D
